These tools are used to mount both halves of snap buttons. Recessed faces on either side of the aluminum anvil hold the parts securely while you tap the setter with a mallet to flare the post, joining the two components.

The tip of the nickel-plated steel setter is shaped so it registers reliably on the end of the post, and has a grooved shoulder to flare it neatly.
