Cheap Lee Valley Squirrel Buster Nut Bird Feeder

This is an excellent bird feeder with the added benefit of being squirrel proof. Openings in the feeder align with ports, giving birds access to the feed inside. When a squirrel climbs onto the feeder, its weight forces a shroud, making the feed ports inaccessible. Squirrels are foiled but not harmed in any way.

The 3/4 quart feeder is 18″ tall and holds shelled peanuts or similarly sized suet pellets and dried fruit, allowing you to establish a separate feeding area for species such as woodpeckers, jays and nuthatches. The diamond-pattern wire-mesh shroud has five large openings. The internal seed hopper is also made from wire mesh to let birds peck at the contents without allowing whole nuts to spill out.

The weight threshold can be adjusted to keep out heavier birds. The feeder is corrosion resistant, UV stable and easy to clean. Instructions included.

Note: The feeder is effective against black squirrels. Immature red squirrels can sometimes gain access due to their small size.

The National Audubon Society gives these tips to help stop the spread of bird diseases such as avian flu. Clean feeders and bird baths with a solution of nine parts water to one part bleach every 2 weeks. Use multiple feeders to make it easier for birds to feed at a distance from each other. Remove feces and seed casings from below feeders regularly.
